In the dying years of the 20th Century, Ste lived in Oxford and formed a 'disco-punk' band called Holy Roman Empire with friends Martin and Emma. 

They released a bunch of singles, Radiohead recorded a threatening song about them and Steven Wells wrote in the NME that they should have had a Christmas #1.

Le Emu Tavern has been known to play the odd Holy Roman Empire song, most famously at the 'Holy Roman Empire v Le Emu Tavern' show at Truck Festival 2018; a performance to mark 20 Years since HRE had played at the first ever Truck Festival.
